Jalan Raja Uda is famous for food!! There are just too many food to choose from along this road. It's one of the busiest roads in Butterworth.

Look at the crowd. It was a night in the weekend.

They say BOYD Chicken Rice, which was just opposite this chicken rice stall, taste better. Hmm.. I should have tried that one.

Sister's Char Koay Teow at Lam Heng Cafe, Macalister Road is one the many famous Char Koay Teow stalls in Penang. It has been around Penang for about 50 years; around the same age as our country Malaysia. It got its name because it was operated by two sisters.

During my visit, the char koay teow was fried by the lady in the picture. I didn't know where 70-plus-year-old lady that other blogs mention has been.

Whenever I passed by Lebuh Carnavon to go to Lebuh Chulia, I never failed to notice the crowd at Tek Sen Restaurant (previously known as Teik Seng Seafood Restaurant). There are always so many people dining there. It made me wonder about the food. And, finally, the day comes.

Look at the crowd. The whole place was full. Even tourists come here to eat since it's very near to Chulia Street which is very popular among European, American and Japanese tourists.

I read a few blogs that feature this cafe and I passed by it many times on the way to Gurney Plaza. Finally, I manage to dine there. And all that I can remember was just the delicious roasted chicken.

Bak Kut Teh with 油条 and rice RM11.00
A blog mentioned that people normally come for the Bak Kut Teh and the 煮炒. The 煮炒 wasn't open that day. My friend commented the Bak Kut Teh tasted so-so. Even the one at Sungai Dua, which is just opposite Tesco Extra, tastes better than this one.

菜糕 RM2.20

The same Bak Kut Teh stall sells this too. They would have been better if the dumpling skin wasn't that easily punctured.

Otak-otak RM2.50
It smelled great but it's too soft and jelly-like. Highly NOT recommended.

Roasted Chicken Drumstick RM5.00

The same stall that sells the otak-otak sells this too. The roasted chicken was superb!! It's the only food at Song River Cafe that I like.

When I was there, I saw two kids kept ordering and eating roasted chicken from this stall. They seemed to love it very much.

If happen to be in Gopeng for breakfast, you should give this a try. It's very popular among the residents in Gopeng and even some who are on their way north to Ipoh.

Look at the crowd.

We reached there at around 8 o'clock in the morning and the Hor Fun was sold out. We had Bee Hoon instead.

All of the above with 3 bowls of noodle cost RM10.80. It's kinda cheap.
It opens very early in the morning. Since it has big crowd everyday, the food finished quite quickly.

Nature's Spoon: I was not aware of the existence of this vegetarian shop until my colleague brought me there. The vegetarian food served there are very healthy. There wasn't any imitation meat served.

Pulau Aman, a home to a traditional Malay village, is famous for its seafood. To get there, you will need to a catch a boat at Jeti Batu Musang in Batu Kawan. It's RM6.00 per two-way trip. You only pay it during the return trip.

There's the boat. It's a public holiday, so the boat will only depart when there's enough people.

Here comes the main dish!!

We waited for about 2 hours for the fishermen to return with their catches of the day.. And here's what they had.. besides some fishes and some very large molluscs.

We grabbed about kilogram of large mantis prawns plus a few more medium ones.. A total of RM105.00..

Sent them to the restaurant (the only restaurant there) where we ate mee udang to boil the fresh mantis prawns..

Beauty Sisters Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant is newly open and is not one of the popular chicken rice ball restaurant in Malacca yet. Since everywhere else was crowded, we tried this out.

My first experience for chicken rice balls was at Jonker Walk and it wasn't a good one. They were very salty and made me very thirsty. The chicken rice balls here at Beauty Sisters changed my impression. They were much better.

My friend kept recommending fat Char Siew when we were in Malacca and there we went to this food court at Jalan Bunga Raya.

We wanted to have the famous Satay Celup during the night in Malacca. Satay Celup is similar to Lok Lok but you dip/cook sticks of food in satay gravy instead of soup.

We came across two Satay Celup restaurants side by side with the same name: Ban Lee Siang.
One named Restoran Ban Lee Siang 万里香沙爹朱律,
the other named Kedai Makanan dan Minuman Ban Lee Siang 万里香沙爹朱津茶餐室

There were many people in both restaurants. Some were waiting to be seated.

We noticed something funny while waiting. There was a notice at Restoran Ban Lee Siang 万里香沙爹朱律

These two restaurants don't seem to be in good terms..

Ong Cheng Huat Seafood Restaurant is famous the following dishes that are featured in this post. :P
However, it's not situation by the main road of Jalan Bagan Lalang. Instead, it's quite further inside into village. Worry not, there are ample signs are around leading you towards the restaurant.

Even though they have spacious parking space, there were many cars around when we went. And apparently, many guests too. Lunch time was the peak hour.

They served their dishes quite quickly. I reckon it's because most customers were here only for the several famous dishes.

Coconut wine (Ya tuak; Ya - Coconut in Hokkien, Tuak is Palm Wine in Malay) RM13.00 per 1.5 litre bottle. Quite nice to drink. But try it only if you're not working or driving after the meal.

Prawn Fritters RM6.50. Thin layers of batter sandwiching prawns.. Crispy.

Everything is purple OUTSIDE and INSIDE de title cafe. It's newly opened (2011) and run by two best friends; Janice Ooi and Ean Lau. According to Applefish, these girls have known each other since kindergarten. When they studied abroad in overseas, they did went around the world to try out different food especially European cuisine. Perhaps this enthusiasm inspires them to open a restaurant.

There's a new Taiwanese delicacies cafe in town. It's the Old Street Taiwanese Delicacies at Jalan Krian. Somewhere near Ah Lam Birthday Mee and the Curry Mee at Lorong Seratus Tahun.

The standing guy in the black shirt and jeans is the owner of this cafe, Desmond Teh.

He's a Penangite who studied in Taiwan and met his Taiwanese wife there.

Wong Chau Jun is very famous for it's Fish Head Vermicelli. You will see huge crowd during lunchtime. Even though it's not a very big restaurant and with no air-conditioner, it's quite cooling. They have a very good ventilation there.

From www.wikistreedfood.com, the name of the restaurant 王昭君 came from a customer's comment who commented on the owner's (Mr Tan Chow Chye 1946) fish head noodle that it looks like Wang Zhao Jun's skin. Wang Zhao Jun is famed as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China.
