Quite popular among the local residents in Teluk Intan especially those who stayed at Jalan Sungai Nibong, I used to frequented this Ah Wah Coffee Shop for their Mee Rebus (
literally means boiled noodle) when I was in my primary school, which was just nearby.
Here's the location.
Mee Rebus shouldn't be mistaken to be Mee Bandung and Mee Jawa. The same thing between these noodles is that they are all made using
yellow noodle.
Mee Bandung's gravy is cooked first before mixing the yellow noodle together and be cooked again. The yellow noodle is not required to be blanched. Instead, it is washed with tap water or just marinated in boiling water for a while to prevent the noodles from sticking with each other. Usually, the gravy is made from chilli and tomato sauces with meat, shrimps or squid. Eggs will be beaten and cooked together in the gravy, unlike in Mee Rebus, eggs are served as a whole and boiled.
For Mee Rebus, after its gravy is prepared, only it is poured onto the noodle. When it is served, it is garnished with some fried bean curd,
cucur udang, cucumber slices, calamansi(
limau kasturi), crackers and sometimes steamed potatoes like those in Mee Jawa.
Mee Jawa is very similar to Mee Rebus. The difference between the two is the gravy where ground peanut is added to it.
