How does the name 打烂碗 came about? In the olden days in Ipoh, there were stalls selling another version Hor Hee that use glass noodle 鼕鼕粉 (which is actually a way of calling 冬粉) and it's currently called 打烂碗. Those days, people had the habit of beating the bowl with a spoon creating the "dong dong" sound when ordering the 鼕鼕粉. In time, because of the beating of the bowl which might possibly break the bowl, and Cantonese people name it as Da Lan Wun 打烂碗. It's somehow the same situation as how Penang Wan Tan Mee became Tok Tok Mee.
Here's the location of Kafe Ipoh Central.
